The light is being shed on the lesser-known works of the late, great Richard Serra – 12 of the artist’s films are now showing at Dia Chelsea. Courtesy of Richard Serra

Richard Serra is perhaps best known for his monumental steel sculptures. But it turns out that the artist, who died earlier this year at the age of 85, also made films and videos. Over a dozen of them, created between 1968-1979 (some shot on 16mm film) are currently on display at Dia Chelsea. Some of them first debuted in the Whitney’s 1968 “Anti-Illusion” show; they were short and filmed little or nothing in black and white. Others are longer, like a nine-minute film shot in 1975 while Serra was living and working in Portland, Oregon. It features a major bridge on the Burlington Northern Railroad on the Willamette River. There are 16 hat options – four 59FIFTY, four 9FORTY A-Frame snapbacks and eight adjustable 9TWENTY hats. – which are definitely a work at home. NewYorkorNowhere.com
